Is it really that simple? Consumers are people that consume? On one level, yes. Its that simple. But, people are complex. People are logical. They want to maximize experiences through rational choices. And, people are emotional. They want to drive fast cars and feel sexy. People are logical and emotional. People are Mr. Spock AND Captain Kirk, lol.
People are logical + emotional and our job as advertisers is to understand what motivates them in order to best position our brands to attract consumers.
Heres a little exercise: Where are you right now? In a classroom? Library? Public transit? At home in your room? Res Hall? Driving? Not cool. Okay, look at the people around you. Can you stare at anyone without being noticed? Study someone nearby for a few moments. Watch their habits. Look at them breathing. Watch their eyes blinking. Are they smiling, or lost in thought, or talking? Are they looking at their phones or studying? What are they thinking about? Pizza? Dating? Clothes? School? Work?
People are incredibly fascinating! An entire universe can be found in every individual. Their thoughts, habits, feelings, preferences, culture, rituals, spirituality, lifestyle Thats the whole world wrapped up in one person!
